A trial to drop the standard fee for a church wedding is to take place after it was approved by the Church of England’s General Synod.
The aim is to encourage more couples to choose a church wedding and to make weddings as affordable as possible.
The current fee is £505, which helps to pay for the cost of the church building and administrative costs.
In areas where the trial is taking place, the fee will be dropped. Couples will be asked if they would like to make a donation instead.
